PHOENIX — Federal authorities have arrested an Arizona man accused of threatening to bomb the White House and other targets in the Washington, D.C., area, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona said Thursday, KTAR News reported.
Prosecutors say Jacob Aaron Hicks, 46, emailed a Tucson news station on Sept. 23 warning of an imminent bomb strike. The station alerted law enforcement, which identified Hicks as the suspected sender. Investigators also found draft emails to other news outlets with similar threats, prosecutors said.
Hicks was arrested Wednesday and charged by criminal complaint with making an interstate threat to injure. A complaint is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
“The FBI remains steadfast in its mission to defend the United States against criminal and national security threats,” said Rebecca Day, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Phoenix office.
