PHOENIX — Hail the size of golf balls and powerful wind smashed windows and dented cars in north Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon as another round of severe storms swept the Valley, FOX 10 and AZFamily reported.
Some of the worst damage was near 19th Avenue and Peoria Avenue, where a Family Dollar store and nearby homes and apartments had windows blown out. “There was hail that was in my hallway about the size of golf balls,” resident Christina Gonzales told FOX 10.
Hail also battered cars and homes in the North Mountain area around 3:30 p.m., and a tree fell onto an apartment building near 28th and Peoria avenues. Branches came down in west Phoenix near 31st Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
At the peak, more than 2,400 APS customers and nearly 2,000 SRP customers were without power, though most had service restored within a couple of hours.
Forecasters said the storm system would keep the threat of damaging wind, large hail, isolated tornadoes and flooding over Arizona through Thursday evening.
