PAYSON — A crash shut down the southbound lanes of State Route 87 south of Payson for a time Wednesday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in advisories sent to news media.
The crash happened at milepost 246, about seven miles south of Payson on the Beeline Highway, the main route between the Rim Country and the Phoenix area. ADOT first reported the closure shortly before 3 p.m. and said there was no estimate for reopening.
About 12 minutes later, ADOT announced that southbound SR 87 had reopened, though drivers were told to expect lingering delays. Northbound lanes stayed open throughout. ADOT did not release details about the crash or whether anyone was hurt.
With storms expected across Arizona’s high country through Thursday, ADOT encourages drivers to check az511.gov, the AZ511 app or call 511 before heading out.
