I-10 Near Ehrenberg Narrows to One Lane Each Way on Weekdays Starting Oct. 26 for Repaving

EHRENBERG — Drivers headed between Arizona and Southern California on Interstate 10 should plan for delays starting next week, when a long-running pavement project begins near the state line, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a news release sent to media Wednesday.

Crews will strip and replace the top layer of asphalt on a 12-mile section of I-10 from Ehrenberg, at the Colorado River and the California border, to milepost 12. The work also includes new guardrail, replacement signs and longer drainage culverts.

Because of the scope of the work, I-10 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction around the clock Monday through Friday. ADOT says guardrail work will happen during the day and paving overnight. No restrictions are scheduled on weekends or holidays, when traffic to and from California is often heaviest.

The first closures begin Monday, Oct. 26, with single-lane traffic both ways from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Thursday, Oct. 29, then 6 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 30, and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. A 14-foot vehicle width limit will be in effect.

The project is expected to wrap up in late summer 2027. Details are posted at azdot.gov/I10Border2Dome, and real-time conditions are available at az511.gov or by calling 511.
