GLENDALE — A man was critically injured Friday morning when a work truck struck him near 51st and Glendale avenues as he ran across the roadway trying to catch a bus, Glendale police said.
The crash was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Officers said the pedestrian was breathing at the scene but critically hurt and was taken to a hospital. His condition later in the day had not been publicly updated.
The truck driver called 911 and told investigators the man ran out in front of the vehicle. Police said they did not believe speed or impairment were factors. Glendale Avenue was closed for a stretch between roughly 52nd and 56th avenues while crews worked the scene; drivers were pointed toward Bethany Home, Northern, 59th or 43rd avenues as alternates.
West Valley corridors see frequent pedestrian conflicts at busy arterials where bus stops and multi-lane speeds collide. Friday’s crash is another reminder for motorists and transit riders alike to treat mid-block dashes and early-morning visibility as high-risk moments.
Anyone with dashcam video or additional information was asked to contact Glendale police.
