Phoenix, AZ — A single-vehicle ATV accident in Phoenix early Monday morning resulted in the death of a 17-year-old driver and left a male passenger injured.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2024, shortly before 4:00 AM, when Edith Ochoa was operating a 2017 Canam ATV westbound on Beardsley Road near 47th Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate that Ochoa lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and onto the dirt shoulder before rolling over.
Witnesses reported that the driver was ejected from the ATV, while the passenger, who had exited the vehicle, sustained injuries. Emergency responders from the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the passenger to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, Ochoa was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Unit are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the accident. It has been confirmed that no other vehicles were involved, and authorities are looking into whether impairment played a role in the incident.
