Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne was arrested early Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, following an incident. Scottsdale police responded to reports of a disturbance near 68th Street and Chaparral Road around 2:45 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers engaged with two individuals, one of whom was later identified as Payne. Although specific details about the disturbance remain undisclosed, Scottsdale police have charged Payne with refusing to provide a truthful name and giving a false report to law enforcement. He was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail but has since been released.
Payne’s basketball journey includes playing college basketball at Murray State and being selected 14th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2015 NBA Draft. He subsequently played for the Chicago Bulls and had brief stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.
After a stint overseas and with the Dallas Mavericks’ G League team, he signed a two-season deal with the Phoenix Suns in June 2020. Payne served as Chris Paul’s backup point guard during his four seasons with the Suns. However, he was traded to San Antonio in July 2023 and later waived. Most recently, Payne joined the Milwaukee Bucks before the 2023-24 NBA season and was subsequently traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February.
