LOS ANGELES — Dylan Sprouse says the only residual check he ever got for Disney Channel’s hit sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” was for five cents, Variety reported.
Sprouse made the comment on the “Wildmen” podcast hosted by his former co-star Phill Lewis, who played hotel manager Mr. Moseby on the show.
“The only residual check I’ve ever received for ‘The Suite Life’ at all was a crossover episode with ‘Hannah Montana’ for five cents. I’m not joking,” Sprouse said, according to Variety. “Imagine that. In a time where residuals would have been great.”
Sprouse said the show was something of an outlier inside the network. “In terms of the channel higher-ups, we were also kind of weirdly the ugly duckling,” he said. “We were extremely popular, but also extremely underfunded.”
He also noted that there were no streaming services at the time and that Disney Channel prided itself on being a safe channel for kids, with no advertisements, Variety reported.
“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” starred Dylan and his twin brother, Cole Sprouse, and ran from 2005 to 2008. The twins played brothers living at the Tipton Hotel with their single mother.
The show led to a spinoff, “The Suite Life on Deck,” which aired from 2008 to 2011 and also starred Brenda Song and Debby Ryan.
