GOODYEAR — A burning vehicle shut down westbound Interstate 10 in the West Valley for more than two hours Wednesday night, Oct. 28, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
In an alert emailed to news media at 7:13 p.m., ADOT said westbound I-10 was closed at Litchfield Road in Goodyear because of a vehicle fire at milepost 127.
Arizona’s Family reported the closure began around 6:45 p.m. with the fire near Bullard Avenue, and drivers were forced off the freeway at Litchfield Road. KTAR News reported a multivehicle crash was involved and that the closure began around 7 p.m.
ADOT sent a follow-up at 9:31 p.m. saying the westbound lanes had reopened. Eastbound traffic was not affected, according to Arizona’s Family.
Officials did not immediately release information about what caused the fire or whether anyone was hurt.
The stretch of I-10 through Goodyear and Avondale is one of the busiest commuter corridors in the West Valley. Drivers can check real-time conditions at az511.gov, on the AZ511 app or by dialing 511.
