USMNT-Mexico “Duel in the Desert” Returns to Glendale Saturday Night

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The U.S. men’s national team and Mexico renew one of Concacaf’s fiercest rivalries Saturday at State Farm Stadium, the fourth “Duel in the Desert” since the Valley first staged the matchup in 2007.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. local time (10 p.m. ET) on Universo, Telemundo and Peacock. The friendly is part of a post–World Cup 2026 slate that already featured South American tests before these classic regional dates against Mexico and Canada.

U.S. Soccer is leaning hard into stadium history. On Feb. 7, 2007, then–University of Phoenix Stadium packed 62,462 fans as Landon Donovan set up Jimmy Conrad’s header and later iced a 2-0 “Dos a Cero” under interim coach Bob Bradley. Later Glendale meetings finished 2-2 in 2014 and 1-1 in 2023, when Jesús Ferreira equalized late for the Americans.

For Valley fans, the night is both soccer holiday and logistics puzzle: Cardinals Drive traffic, clear-bag rules and a fan code of conduct that bars discriminatory chants — with ejections and possible match stoppages on the table if problems flare. Tickets remain available through the stadium and U.S. Soccer channels.

Whether the result is another shutout classic or a wide-open scrap, Saturday puts Arizona back at the center of the rivalry map — a reminder that desert nights have shaped USA-Mexico lore for nearly twenty years.
