Tucson Pedestrian Death on Golf Links Road Marks City’s 24th of 2026

TUCSON — A 52-year-old woman died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing East Golf Links Road late Friday, becoming Tucson’s 24th pedestrian fatality of 2026, according to local reporting citing Tucson police.

Andrea Lynn Behlers was hit in the 7200 block of East Golf Links Road about 10:19 p.m. Friday, KGUN 9 and Hoodline reported. Investigators said she was crossing from north to south outside a marked crosswalk when a white 2017 Toyota Tacoma struck her. Tucson Fire transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The pickup driver was not injured and remained at the scene. The department’s impaired-driving enforcement unit determined the driver was not impaired, police said. As of initial reports, no arrests or citations had been issued, and the investigation remains open.

The stretch between Kolb and Pantano sits on Tucson’s High Injury Network, where arterials posted at 40–45 mph account for more than 90% of the city’s severe and fatal pedestrian collisions, per the city’s Pedestrian Safety Action Plan cited in coverage. Pedestrian deaths in Tucson have climbed to 24 so far in 2026 from 19 at the same point last year, even as overall traffic fatalities (63) are slightly below last year’s pace (65), according to KGUN 9.

Arizona law requires pedestrians crossing outside marked or intersection crosswalks to yield to vehicles, while drivers still owe a duty of due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians. Tucson voters previously approved Proposition 411, extending a half-cent sales tax aimed at traffic-calming, lighting and crosswalk upgrades — a backdrop for a corridor that has already seen other severe crashes this year.
