JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — President Donald Trump openly urged Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania to become a Republican, according to The Associated Press.
‘I’d love to see him as a Republican,’ Trump told reporters Saturday. ‘He does better as a Republican than he does as a Democrat.’
Fetterman has split with Democrats on immigration and Israel but has repeatedly rejected switching, writing in May that he would be a ‘terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats.’
A Fetterman representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the AP reported.
Democrats need to gain four seats to retake the Senate majority in next month’s elections.
