PHOENIX — Ted Simons is retiring as host of Arizona PBS’ “Arizona Horizon,” ending nearly two decades at the helm of the state’s long-running nightly public affairs program, KTAR News reported Tuesday.
Simons became host and managing editor in 2008, according to an announcement from Arizona State University, which houses Arizona PBS. He previously hosted KTAR’s afternoon drive news and talk show.
Over the years, he interviewed figures including President Jimmy Carter, Sen. John McCain and Hillary Clinton, moderated the 2022 U.S. Senate debate between Mark Kelly and Blake Masters, and recently hosted a forum between secretary of state candidates Adrian Fontes and Alexander Kolodin.
General manager Scott Woelfel said Simons is trusted by viewers “on both sides of the political aisle.” Arizona PBS is searching for a new host for the 40-year-old program.
