PHOENIX — Three games into the season, frustration is reportedly building inside the Phoenix Suns’ locker room over the team’s lack of a true point guard.
NBATV’s Chris Haynes reported Thursday that he had heard of growing discontent tied to how the offense is running. “I made some calls and asking around — and what I found out is that there is some growing frustration in that locker room for the simple fact that that roster does not have a point guard that can organize that offense,” Haynes said, according to Arizona Sports.
The report followed Devin Booker’s quietest night in years. Booker scored three points on 1-for-7 shooting in a 125-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday that dropped Phoenix to 1-2. It was the first time since November 2023 that he scored in single digits in a game he was not hurt or pulled early, Arizona Sports reported.
“I just got to find better ways to be more aggressive,” Booker told AZCentral.com after the game.
Phoenix has used the same starting lineup in every game without a traditional point guard: Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Miles Bridges and Khaman Maluach. Collin Gillespie is the closest thing to a true point guard on the roster.
Not everyone agreed. A social media post included in the Arizona Sports report disputed any dissension, pointing out that the Suns are also missing their top two centers, Mark Williams and Oso Ighodaro.
Haynes said he did not know whether the team is looking to make a move. The Suns host the Denver Nuggets on Friday at 7 p.m.
