Seahawks lose Sam Darnold for Cardinals game, Drew Lock gets the start

A quarterback drops back to pass

TEMPE — The Seattle Seahawks will be without starting quarterback Sam Darnold when they face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Arizona Sports reported.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday that Darnold injured his quad late in Monday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears. Macdonald called the injury “week-to-week” but said Darnold will not go on injured reserve.

Drew Lock is in line to start. That is not good news for Arizona: Lock started against the Cardinals earlier this season and went 19 of 26 for 235 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle’s 31-7 win at State Farm Stadium.

“The plan is for Drew to start,” Macdonald said, adding that Jalen Milroe will be ready as the backup. Lock was limited in practice with an elbow issue, and Seattle signed Adrian Martinez to its practice squad.

On the Cardinals’ side, receiver Michael Wilson was limited in practice after saying he has two broken ribs. He still caught eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win at Dallas.

Running back Bam Knight did not practice after entering the concussion protocol, and Arizona opened the 21-day practice window for guard Isaiah Adams, who has not played since Week 4.

Coach Mike LaFleur said running back James Conner, on injured reserve all season, will not return this week but did not rule out a return later this year.

Kickoff is set for 2:25 p.m. Sunday.
