SCOTTSDALE — After gunfire struck nearby homes during a weekend party at a south Scottsdale short-term rental, a police commander said the city can now ask a court to suspend a rental license in extreme cases, KTAR News reported.
Police responded to multiple 911 calls about shots fired near Roosevelt and 74th streets, with rounds fired in a front yard, a backyard and the street, according to ABC15. Shell casings were left in the road.
“In a case like this … where it’s an extreme case, we do have a new mechanism to try to suspend that license, but we have to go through the court to do so,” Commander Jeremy O’Meara said on KTAR’s Arizona’s Morning News. He did not say whether the city had sought a suspension for this property.
Scottsdale’s nuisance-party ordinance allows citations against renters who host disruptive parties, but O’Meara said tying the party back to the property owner is harder.
