PHOENIX — Saturday night was only the 12th time in 131 years that it rained on Halloween in Phoenix, according to First Alert Meteorologist Pete Mangione of Arizona’s Family.

Many families headed out early in north Phoenix hoping to fill their buckets before heavier rain arrived, the station reported.

“We are just out here early because we are afraid it’s going to start pouring,” one trick-or-treater said. Another worried about a different kind of damage: “I have spray paint in my hair and I don’t wanna get it ruined.”

Some found an upside. “I think it will help me cool off because I have a hot costume,” one child said. Another said the weather “kind of feels extra spooky.”

Not everyone was a fan. “I love the rain, any other day,” a woman named Jennifer told Arizona’s Family. “Not on Halloween, not tonight! It’s my night to shine!”

The rain was part of a storm system that put the Valley under a Flood Watch from Saturday night through early Monday.
