Lindsay Lohan Recreates the ‘Mean Girls’ Oct. 3 Scene With Director Mark Waters

LOS ANGELES — Oct. 3 is Mean Girls Day again, and Lindsay Lohan marked it by stepping back into the joke that created the holiday. She and director Mark Waters posted a video Saturday morning on TikTok, Instagram, and X, restaging the classroom moment from the 2004 comedy.

In the film, Lohan’s Cady Heron narrates the day her crush, Aaron Samuels, turns around and asks what day it is. Her answer — that it is Oct. 3 — became an annual meme. Lohan and Waters play the beat, then crack up. USA Today reported the clip had more than 4 million views on TikTok, more than 2 million on X, and 1.4 million likes on Instagram, with more views on Facebook. Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron, replied on Instagram that he missed the two of them.

The reunion is not only nostalgia. Lohan and Waters are making Return to You, a romantic film for Netflix that also stars Henry Golding. Waters, who directed Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, is directing. Lohan is producing as well as starring.

Tina Fey’s script, about a homeschooled newcomer and the clique known as the Plastics, still supplies the lines people post every Oct. 3. This year’s version has the original Cady and the original director on camera together, which is why the views moved as fast as they did.
