PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs said Tuesday that her security team flagged an execution threat against her and her family last week, the latest in a string of threats aimed at Arizona Democrats ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
“There was an execution threat against me and my family just last week,” Hobbs said on KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos. She did not describe the threat in detail.
The disclosure came the same week the Executive Tower at the Capitol was evacuated after the Secretary of State’s Office received a letter containing white powder that officials later said was not toxic. Over the weekend, three Arizona Democrats in Congress also received suspicious letters.
“Political threats and violence have no place in Arizona,” Hobbs said. She recalled armed protesters outside her home in 2020, when she was secretary of state, and said people in politics need thick skin “but when those things turn personal, that is not okay.”
In the same interview, Hobbs said she opposes Proposition 144, which would require voters to include proof of identification with mail-in ballots.
