Israel marked the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks with ceremonies and remembrances on Oct. 7, 2026.
About 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostage in the original assault. Three years later, conflict with Hamas and related fighting across the region continued to shape Israeli politics and U.S. Middle East policy.
PBS NewsHour and other outlets covered anniversary events alongside updates from Gaza and the wider region. Families of victims and hostages again pressed governments for accountability and for any remaining captives to come home.
