Police in Greenville, South Carolina, have officially ruled the death of actor Hayden Panettiere accidental, CBS News reported Wednesday.

The Greenville Police Department said it concluded its investigation “based on the Medical Examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation.”

Last month, a South Carolina coroner said Panettiere, 36, died from an accidental drug overdose that included fentanyl and that there were no signs of trauma, according to CBS News.

Emergency responders were called on the afternoon of Aug. 16 to a residence in Greenville where she had been staying. She was pronounced dead at the scene despite advanced cardiac life support, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said.

Panettiere was known for roles on “Heroes” and “Nashville.” Authorities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, had been investigating the circumstances of her death, CBS News reported.

Anyone struggling with substance use can call or text 988 or the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 for free, confidential help.
