The FBI has seized scanning and phishing tools used by a hacking group that U.S. officials link to the Chinese government, the FBI and Justice Department announced, the Associated Press reported.
The tools, called Microscan and FishHub, were used by the group known in the private sector as Flax Typhoon to target critical infrastructure, including an unnamed U.S. power company, airports in Japan and Poland, Taiwanese universities and Taiwanese infrastructure firms.
Officials said the operation has made the tools inoperable. “We aim to remove the capability from the threat actors,” an official said, describing efforts to go after the hackers’ infrastructure and money.
