Democrats Sue Trump Administration, Alleging Pressure Campaign on State Election Officials

The Democratic National Committee, the party’s House and Senate campaign arms and several lawmakers sued the Trump administration in federal court in Washington late Tuesday, accusing it of trying to strong-arm state-run elections less than two weeks before Election Day, ABC News reported.

The complaint asks a judge to block what it describes as efforts to force states to remove voters from the rolls, segregate certain ballots and “threaten state and local election officials for doing nothing more than their lawful duties.”

The Justice Department and Homeland Security have accused California, Nevada and other states of harboring noncitizens on voter rolls. In a separate filing Tuesday, Los Angeles County officials said a review of 200 people from a DOJ list of about 20,000 found nearly 40% indicated they were born in the U.S.

DOJ spokesperson Kiersten Pels accused California of “willful blindness” and said the department is working to protect election integrity.
