Emergency crews respond to a highway crash

TUCSON — Two crashes shut down Arizona highways overnight, including a long closure of eastbound Interstate 10 southeast of Tucson, according to releases from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT said eastbound I-10 was closed east of Vail on Wednesday evening, Nov. 4, because of a crash at milepost 290, about 12 miles east of Vail.

Westbound lanes were not affected, according to the agency.

ADOT said in a release sent at 5:20 a.m. Thursday that the eastbound lanes had reopened.

Farther north, ADOT closed southbound State Route 87 near Payson at milepost 245 because of a crash at about 8:16 p.m. Wednesday. The agency announced the highway had reopened in a release at 8:28 p.m.

ADOT’s releases did not include details about injuries or what caused either crash. Investigating agencies typically release those details separately.

Drivers can check current highway conditions at az511.gov or by calling 511.
