Crash Shuts Eastbound I-10 in Vail for Hours, Second Closure Near Houghton in Two Days

An Arizona interstate highway

VAIL — A crash shut down eastbound Interstate 10 southeast of Tucson for roughly four hours Tuesday, Oct. 27, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

In an alert sent to news media at 9:31 a.m., ADOT said the eastbound lanes were closed in Vail because of a crash just past Houghton Road, and that there was no estimated time for reopening. Westbound I-10 was not affected.

The agency sent a follow-up at 1:28 p.m. saying the eastbound lanes had reopened.

ADOT did not release details about what caused the crash, how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was hurt.

It was the second crash-related closure on I-10 near Houghton Road in two days. On Monday, Oct. 26, Thee Arizona Times reported on an earlier crash that also snarled traffic in the same corridor, a key route between Tucson, Vail, Benson and points east.

Drivers can check real-time highway conditions at az511.gov, on the AZ511 app, or by dialing 511 before heading out.
