PHOENIX — A 64-year-old man is jailed on felony charges after state troopers say he threw rocks at moving traffic on State Route 74, the Carefree Highway, damaging five vehicles.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said troopers were called the night of Oct. 20 after 911 callers reported a shirtless man throwing stones at passing cars. By the time they arrived, five vehicles had been hit, affecting seven people.
The man ran into the open desert when troopers approached, and they caught him after a short chase, FOX 10 reported.
Court records identify him as Adam Clayton, who is homeless. He was booked into the Lower Buckeye Jail on six counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and five counts of criminal damage, and is being held on a $25,000 bond. Records show prior aggravated assault and criminal damage convictions in Maricopa County going back to 2011.
His next court date is Oct. 27. DPS is asking drivers to call 911 right away if they see dangerous behavior on Arizona roads.
