CAREFREE — The small foothills town of Carefree is moving to land its second grocery store as part of a new retail center, ABC15 reported.
Scottsdale-based developer SimonCRE is working with the town on Craig’s Crossing, a 120,000-square-foot retail project on the far southwest side of Carefree off Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway. The Empire Group of Companies owns the land and Western Retail Advisors is handling leasing.
At an Oct. 22 special meeting, the Town Council voted 6-1 to adopt a notice of intent to enter into a retail development tax incentive agreement for the project, according to ABC15.
Under the proposed agreement, Carefree would offer up to $11.6 million in incentives to help SimonCRE cover public infrastructure costs.
ABC15 described the incoming store as a first-rate specialty grocer. Carefree currently has one grocery store.
Carefree, north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, has a population of roughly 3,700 and is known for its desert foothills setting.
