NEW YORK — Acne is not just a teenage problem, and dermatologists say adults with breakouts should not suffer alone, according to The Associated Press.
‘We know how to treat acne. We know the cause of it. So don’t suffer alone,’ said Dr. Crystal Aguh, director of the Ethnic Skin Program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Teen acne often hits the forehead, nose and cheeks, while adults, especially women, may get hormonal breakouts along the jawline and chin, Aguh said. Steroids can also trigger acne.
Pimples form when pores clog with oil, bacteria and dead skin. Genetics, hormones, environment and diet can all play a role.
If breakouts persist or leave dark marks or texture changes, doctors recommend seeing a dermatologist.
