Cardinals’ Tyler Allgeier wins NFC honor after 191-yard comeback game in Dallas

An NFL game in progress

TEMPE — Tyler Allgeier went from backup to NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday, according to Arizona Sports.

The Arizona Cardinals running back ran for a career-high 147 yards and caught passes for 44 more in Sunday’s come-from-behind overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys. He scored once on the ground and once through the air.

It is the first player of the week award of Allgeier’s career. He became Arizona’s only option out of the backfield after injuries to Jeremiyah Love and Bam Knight.

Before Sunday, Allgeier had 64 rushing yards combined over his previous three games and had never topped 61 in a game this season, Arizona Sports reported.

With Arizona down 17-3, Allgeier sparked the comeback with a 63-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, the longest rushing touchdown in the NFL this season. On the next drive, he broke off a 52-yard run and then caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew II.

Next Gen Stats credited him with 96 rushing yards over expected, the most by a Cardinals player since at least 2018.

Allgeier is the third Cardinal to win a weekly award this season, joining kicker Chad Ryland and Simi Fehoko, who were each named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. That is the team’s most player of the week picks since 2021.
