PHOENIX — Talyn Vigil, one of the defendants charged in the 2023 killing of 16-year-old Preston Lord, is back in jail after his third arrest in the past year, KTAR News reported.

Vigil, 20, was arrested Tuesday for failing to comply with the terms of his release and was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Intake, Transfer and Release facility in Phoenix. His bond was set at $2 million, and he was due in court Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors were expected to ask the court to keep him in custody until he is tried in Lord’s death.

Lord was fatally beaten while leaving a Halloween party in Queen Creek in 2023. His death was one of several violent incidents tied to a group of East Valley teens known as the Gilbert Goons.

Vigil is one of six remaining defendants in the case. A seventh, William Hines, pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter, plus five years for crimes unrelated to the Lord case.

Vigil was indicted in March 2024 on first-degree murder and kidnapping charges. He posted a $1 million bond in April 2024 and was released with electronic monitoring.

Since then, he was arrested in September 2025 for violating a restraining order and again in February 2026 for reckless driving. He took plea deals to avoid jail time in those misdemeanor cases, according to ABC15.

His latest violation happened Sept. 17, when Tempe police said he was drag racing on a motorcycle near Arizona State University.
