TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals are sticking with their quarterback change. Coach Mike LaFleur named Gardner Minshew the starter over Jacoby Brissett going into Week 9, Arizona Sports reported Monday.
Rookie Carson Beck was also promoted to backup quarterback. Beck had been inactive as the emergency quarterback for eight straight games.
Brissett started the first eight games but was pulled late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game at Dallas after going 10-for-23 for 108 yards and an interception.
Minshew came in with 1:35 left in the third quarter and threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns as Arizona turned a 17-3 deficit into a 33-30 overtime win over the Cowboys.
Minshew is 17-30 as a starter across five teams in his seven-year career. He knows the offense well, having helped install it with LaFleur and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett during the offseason while Brissett was in contract talks.
Brissett signed a new deal before the season that guaranteed him $15.5 million. He went 2-5 as a starter this season.
Minshew’s first start comes against a tough stretch of the schedule, starting with a road game at the Seattle Seahawks.
