SAHUARITA — Drivers on Duval Mine Road at Interstate 19 should get a smoother ride by the end of the year, as state crews begin an $850,000 project to fix dips in the road, according to a release from the Arizona Department of Transportation.
ADOT said crews will inject polyurethane foam under the pavement on both sides of the I-19 interchange. The foam raises sunken sections of road and stabilizes soil that has settled over time.
Along the same stretch, the agency will replace more than 1,000 square feet of uneven sidewalks and ramps. Crews will also replace damaged drainage features and curbs and fix uneven walkway pavers.
Most of the work will happen at night to limit traffic delays, ADOT said. The first closures run from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Sunday, Nov. 8, through Friday, Nov. 13.
During those hours, eastbound Duval Mine Road will be closed from the frontage road west of I-19 to east of the interstate at Abrego Drive. Drivers can use Esperanza Boulevard at Exit 65, the next exit south, as a detour.
More restrictions and closures will be scheduled as the project continues, the agency said. Work is expected to last through December.
