PHOENIX — The Phoenix Symphony is spending Halloween weekend with pirates, wizards and villains, staging a live-to-film Pirates of the Caribbean concert and a costume-friendly family show, according to the orchestra’s schedule.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in Concert plays at Symphony Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. The orchestra performs Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer’s score live while the 2003 film starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley plays on a big screen. Conner Gray Convington conducts, and the show runs about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Earlier Saturday, the symphony’s Family Series presents Heroes & Villains: Music in Motion at 2 p.m. at the Madison Center for the Arts. The one-hour program features music from Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Avengers and Superman, along with villain themes such as Darth Vader’s and the shark from Jaws.
Costumes are encouraged for the Halloween concert, the symphony says. Alejandro Gómez Guillén conducts, and the Mesa Youth Creative Agency will host a pre-concert lobby activity as a community partner.
The Pirates program is part of the symphony’s Films Series, which pairs the orchestra with movies projected above the stage. The next film concert is scheduled for Nov. 27-29.
Tickets for both programs are sold through the Phoenix Symphony’s website.
