PHOENIX — A familiar name is moving to the front of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ TV booth. The team named Chris Garagiola its new television play-by-play voice on DBACKS.TV starting in 2027, MLB.com reported.
“Chris has established himself as an exceptional storyteller over the last five seasons and earned the opportunity to be the centerpiece as we evolve our television broadcasts,” D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall said. “A third-generation D-back who grew up with this team, we are ecstatic he is carrying on his family legacy.”
The Phoenix native grew up a D-backs fan. His father, Joe Garagiola Jr., was the team’s original general manager from 1995 to 2005 and built the inaugural 1998 team and the 2001 World Series champions.
His grandfather, Hall of Famer Joe Garagiola Sr., capped a 58-year broadcasting career with 15 seasons with the D-backs from 1998 to 2012. Chris Garagiola will call games from the “Joe Garagiola Broadcast Booth.”
“It is the honor of my lifetime to step into the television booth in my hometown for the team I grew up rooting for,” Garagiola said. He thanked the organization, his co-hosts, the production team and fans.
