PHOENIX — With layoffs days away, Phoenix Symphony musicians are sharing their personal stories in a social media campaign called “Face the Music,” ABC15 reported.
The symphony announced Oct. 20 that its season would pause after its final scheduled performance on Sunday, Nov. 1, citing a lack of funds. Layoffs for all 66 musicians begin Monday, Nov. 2.
The campaign, launched Tuesday, features photos and biographies of each musician and how they built their careers.
“Everyone’s got a different story. Everyone’s coming from a different place,” Nugent, the orchestra’s fourth horn, told ABC15. “It’s obviously deeply gonna affect all of us, but it’s gonna affect all of us in very different ways.”
The symphony told ABC15 it is working on a financial plan, but there is no word on when the season might resume.
Thee Arizona Times first reported on the season pause last week. Sunday’s concert may be the last chance for some time to hear the full orchestra perform.
