LOS ANGELES — Susan Saint James, the Emmy-winning actress who starred in “McMillan & Wife” and “Kate & Allie,” has died at 80, FOX 10 Phoenix reported, citing Variety and People.

Saint James died Monday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, according to Variety.

She broke through in the late 1960s on NBC’s “The Name of the Game” as research assistant Peggy Maxwell, a role that earned three Emmy nominations and a 1969 win for supporting actress in a drama series.

From 1971 to 1976 she starred opposite Rock Hudson in “McMillan & Wife” as Sally McMillan, wife of a San Francisco police commissioner, earning three more Emmy nominations. She later starred in the CBS sitcom “Kate & Allie.”

In a statement shared with People, her family described her as “generous with her time and energy” and said she “never met a stranger.” The family recalled that weeks after her youngest son, Teddy, died in a 2004 plane crash, she delivered his eulogy as a note to her other children and her husband.
