NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Christa Pike, who survived Tennessee’s attempt to execute her by lethal injection, has been released from the hospital and returned to prison, her attorneys said Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

Pike, 50, is back at the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center, the women’s prison where she has been held for 30 years, and is still receiving medical care, her lawyers said.

“She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances,” the statement said.

Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital on Sept. 30, when the state tried to carry out her death sentence for the 1995 killing of classmate Colleen Slemmer. A judge has ordered the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence related to the failed execution.
