NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nine people were injured Thursday night when an SUV rear-ended a pedal tavern carrying 12 passengers in downtown Nashville, police said.
The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. on Demonbreun Street when a westbound Toyota RAV4 slammed into the back of the multi-rider bike, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. At least two passengers were seriously hurt.
Six patients were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where five were stable and one was in critical condition, a hospital spokesperson said. The SUV driver and the pedal tavern operator were not hurt.
Police said the driver told officers he was distracted but it wasn’t clear by what. Spokesperson Kris Mumford said the riders were an “older crowd” and that pedal tavern crashes are rare; it was the first she knew of.
The investigation is continuing.
