PRESCOTT — With less than two weeks until Election Day, a Yavapai College Board candidate is drawing notice with campaign signs planted beneath license-plate reader cameras around Prescott.
Ryan Jones’ signs read “Flock Cam Here” and “Private AI Cams Tracking YOU,” with a small campaign disclaimer at the bottom, Arizona’s Family reported.
“It is absolutely a cheap stunt to get attention to my campaign,” Jones told the station. “But … it’s also calling attention to a bigger issue.”
Republican political consultant Barrett Marson said name recognition is most of the battle in small local races, and that topics like Flock cameras, artificial intelligence and data centers cut across party lines. “You’re driving by at 40 miles an hour,” he said. “It’s quick.”
There is no public polling in the college board race, so it’s hard to know whether the signs will move votes. Flock Safety’s automated cameras have become a debate in several Arizona cities over how plate data is stored and shared.
