LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears placed offensive lineman Braxton Jones on injured reserve Saturday and called up two practice-squad defenders for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Marcus Davenport and Nick McCloud are standard gameday elevations. Under league rules they go back to the practice squad after the game. The team did not list a diagnosis or a return date for Jones in the roster notice.
Davenport signed to the practice squad before the season. The eight-year veteran has played 77 regular-season games with 44 starts, 25 sacks, 71 quarterback hits, and seven forced fumbles. New Orleans took him 14th overall in 2018, and he made the Pro Football Writers’ All-Rookie team. He later played for Minnesota and spent 2024 and 2025 with Detroit. He has 165 career tackles, 88 of them solo.
McCloud returned to Chicago’s practice squad before Week 3. He has played 62 games with 20 starts, including 15 games and four starts for the Bears last season, and he started in Chicago’s wild-card win over Green Bay. An undrafted free agent with Buffalo in 2021, he has also been with Cincinnati, the Giants, and the 49ers. His career line includes 110 tackles, 12 passes defensed, an interception, 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three recoveries. Both will be available Sunday if the Bears activate them onto the gameday roster as planned.
