Early Morning Murder-Suicide Under Investigation by Surprise Police

Surprise, AZ (September 23, 2024) – At approximately 5 a.m. on September 23, 2024, officers from the Surprise Police Department were dispatched to a business located near West Bell Road and State Route 303 following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered two men in the parking lot, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate efforts of witnesses and officers to provide life-saving aid, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Daniel Roman, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, 49-year-old Lucas Izzo, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Investigations revealed that Roman was dating Izzo’s ex-wife. Izzo, without any provocation, fired several shots at Roman before turning the gun on himself. Fortunately, no other individuals were injured during the incident. The police department has expressed its gratitude to community members and business partners for their cooperation, including providing statements and video footage.
