A fatal shooting occurred in north Phoenix following an altercation, resulting in one man’s death. According to authorities, the shooter acted in self-defense.
The incident took place at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Saturday night near 27th Avenue and Beardsley Road. Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting and upon arrival, detained a man who was armed.
The victim, identified as Alejandro Samplina, 32, was discovered on the ground in a parking lot and was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police reports indicate that Samplina and the shooter engaged in an argument over parking. Allegedly, Samplina brandished a knife and pursued the shooter around his vehicle.
In response, the shooter retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and, fearing for his safety, discharged the weapon, striking Samplina.
Authorities, after reviewing witness statements and surveillance footage, corroborated the shooter’s account of acting in self-defense.
Following interrogation by detectives, the shooter was released pending further investigation.
Phoenix police have indicated that the case will be forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review of potential charges.
