UPDATE Tragic incident involving Dafne Juan, the 15-year-old girl who lost her life in a scooter accident in the Bronx:

Dafne Juan was a passenger on a scooter, driven by a 19-year-old man, when they tragically collided with a Honda Pilot at the corner of University Avenue and West 192nd Street in the Bronx. The 22 year old driver of the SUV remained at the scene, and the impact was so severe that Dafne was critically injured. She tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man operating the scooter was also seriously injured and is currently fighting for his life. It’s a heartbreaking situation, especially considering that the scooter they were riding on was stolen, according to sources. The driver of the scooter is in the hospital in critical condition and in police custody. Currently there are no charges on the SUV driver.

Dafne’s family and friends are devastated by her loss. Her grandmother expressed the depth of their grief, unable to find words to describe their pain. Dafne was the second oldest of four sisters, described as a happy and quiet girl who spent time with her family.
