Tyla Won Two Awards At The 2024 BET Awards

Tyla, a South African celebrity, has created history by taking home two Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, including Best New Artist and Best International Act. Her incredible performance at the awards ceremony confirmed her as a rising star in the world.

Her first single, “Water,” which featured her captivating hooks and captivating performing style, went on to become an enormous smash. Tyla is unique in the music industry thanks to her fusion of pop, R&B, and Afrobeat components.

Tyla looked stunning in a long black halter-neck dress that showed off her back with a thigh-high split. An unexpected element that really set the dress apart was the tiger design that could be seen on the underside of the hem. This was a fun touch that also makes an intriguing allusion to her followers called “tigers.”

“Being here is such a gift. “I want to dedicate this one to Africa,” Tyla said during her Best New Artist victory speech.

“This one is dedicated to all the African superstars that came before me. Africa to the global community,” she added.

She continued with a riveting rendition of her hit song “Jump,” which included Gunna and Skillibeng. This was her possible comeback to the stage following the cancellation of her World Tour almost four months prior due to an injury that was not disclosed.

Her show included a giant elephant statue, performers on stilts, and dancers in tiger print bodysuits, a tribute to her fan base, whom she lovingly refers to as Tygers.

Tyla wasn’t the only South African winner—the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act went to Makhadzi, an artist from Limpopo.

“I began my musical career in the streets, and now I’m here. I’ve just realized my dream. I’m at a loss for words. “This birthday is the best one ever,” she said.

She looked amazing on the red carpet in a playful pink outfit.

Gayton McKenzie, the recently appointed Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, praised the two local talents on X.

“Things are happening already, congratulations to both ladies, we wanna assure South Africans that we will not be a Ministry that will be content with congratulating artists and creatives only but will go out and unearth more Tyla’s & Makhadzi’s, help us find more future superstars,” he stated.
