The wildfire ignited by lightning on Tuesday, July 2nd, which was burning west of Heber-Overgaard and north of Forest Lakes, has spread from 500 acres to 1,066 acres.
It is burning now in the area between Forest Lakes and Heber-Overgaard that was damaged by the 2009 Wagon Draw fire.
Updates on emergency bulletins indicate that the fire is being battled with a dedication to complete suppression. Teams built a dozer line to the north and used easily accessible forest roads to create containment lines in an effort to stop the flames from spreading.
Officials provided an update on Saturday, stating that more firefighting equipment had been sent to the scene, including four fire engines, three first assault squads, two dozers, and a helicopter.
Firefighters have managed to confine 40% of the fire, but more smoke is predicted, and it will become visible from Highways 260 and 277, as well as the towns of Forest Lakes and Heber-Overgaard. Smoke may affect visibility around Forest Road (FR) 170, FR 99, Chevelon Canyon, Forest Lakes, and Highway 260, so drivers should use care.
No towns have received an evacuation order, and no buildings are at risk of collapsing.
A section of FR 170 near the fire area is temporarily closed to ensure the safety of the public and firefighters. Vigilance along Forest Road (FR) 170 and other highways, such as FR 9517W and FR 9517, will be increased to further protect the region. It is recommended that the public keep themselves updated on the state of the roads, particularly for those who want to travel through the affected areas in the upcoming days. Even while the sight of smoke may be unsettling, they assured that expert wildfire crews are battling the Weimer Fire with urgency and strategy as they attempt to limit and manage the fire.
