The goal of Garrett Popcorn Shops was to create a shop within Sky Harbor’s Terminal 4, which would be convenient for both tourists and residents who enjoy popcorn. Documents from the City of Phoenix, however, state that their plan was eventually turned down.
At its meeting on June 26, the Phoenix City Council unanimously decided to grant Travel Treats & The Coca-Cola Lounge, a new concept, the pre-security restaurant area in Terminal 4, which was previously held by three eateries.
Two of the four concessionaires that indicated interest submitted proposals, according to city documents. Before coming before the City Council, they passed through several subcommittees and the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board. The proposed idea, proposed merchandising plan, design and quality of tenant upgrades, and operations and technology plans were among the various factors that airport staff considered while reviewing the proposals. Eventually, CASA Unlimited Enterprises’ offer was chosen.
Because the Coke Lounge would take up all of the available concession space, Phoenix Aviation Superintendent Corinne Harbaugh indicated that municipal personnel advised accepting the Coke Lounge’s bid over Garrett Popcorn. The proposed space would be approximately 2,685 square feet, which was formerly occupied by LoLo’s Chicken & Waffles, Yogurtology, and Joe’s Real BBQ.
Records showed that city employees projected it would bring in around $400,000 for Phoenix each year. That should persuade everyone.
The Travel Treats & Coca-Cola Lounge idea is scheduled to open 24 hours a day and last, until Sky Harbor’s food and beverage contract with SSP America ends, which is at least August 31, 2026. In addition to prepared meals featuring vegan, gluten-free, and kid-friendly alternatives, the Travel Treats & Coca-Cola Lounge offers Coca-Cola & Go coolers filled with over thirty different kinds of soft beverages.
Depending on demand, Travel Treats hopes to provide a full-service kitchen; Coca-Cola also wants to equip the lounge with television-equipped chairs and charging stations, according to Harbaugh.
For Valley residents who enjoy Garrett’s popcorn, this is not the end of the line. Although World Market carries pre-packaged Garrett Popcorn, the closest freestanding store is located in Las Vegas.
