Tempe, Ariz. — The Tempe Police Department has arrested 24-year-old Daniel Ashpes for making multiple online threats directed at Donald Trump Jr. and Charlie Kirk during their recent political rally in Tempe.
Ashpes was taken into custody on Thursday after detectives received reports of threatening messages linked to an automated mass-messaging system that requested RSVPs for the Turning Point USA rally held at a local hotel.
The Threat Mitigation Unit swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the identification of Ashpes as the source of the threats. During an interview with detectives, he confessed to sending the messages.
Ashpes was arrested at approximately 5:30 p.m. at his residence and is now facing several misdemeanor charges, including three counts of Threatening to Cause Physical Injury to Another Person and one count of Using a Phone to Threaten or Intimidate. He has been booked into the Tempe City Jail.
