TEMPE, ARIZ. – The Tempe Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Gustavo Cuiriz in connection with a serious collision that sent three bicyclists to the hospital.
The incident occurred on October 6, 2024, when emergency responders received multiple calls reporting that a Toyota SUV had struck a group of cyclists at the intersection of College Avenue and 15th Street. Cuiriz remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement. Initial investigations ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash.
Following a detailed inquiry by the Tempe Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit, which included witness accounts and physical evidence, Cuiriz was arrested on October 22, 2024. He faces three counts of Causing Serious Physical Injury by Moving Violation, classified as Class 1 misdemeanors.
The court may also consider suspending Cuiriz’s driving privileges as part of the legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safety of the community.
