Phoenix Az- A tragic ATV rollover in the early hours of Monday morning left one teenager dead and another passenger injured, according to Phoenix authorities.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 23, 2024, just before 4:00 AM, when a 2017 Canam ATV driven by 17-year-old Edith Ochoa lost control while traveling westbound on Beardsley Road, near 47th Avenue. Investigators said the ATV veered off the road and onto the dirt shoulder, causing the vehicle to roll over.
Ochoa was ejected from the ATV during the rollover and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The male passenger, who had already exited the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived, sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition has not yet been disclosed.
The Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation, and it has been confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Whether impairment played a role is still under investigation.
