Suspect Dead Following Shootout with Glendale Police

Glendale, AZ — A suspect was fatally wounded in a shootout with Glendale police officers on Wednesday afternoon, near the intersection of 56th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. The Glendale Police Department reported that the incident began as a domestic dispute and escalated into a standoff.

According to Glendale Police spokesperson Jose Miguel Santiago, the unidentified suspect fired at officers during the standoff. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was critically injured and later pronounced dead. No officers were hurt in the exchange.

The area is expected to remain closed through the evening as the investigation continues. SWAT vehicles and several marked patrol SUVs are on the scene, and one home has been reported to have had its garage door damaged.

This shooting marks the 40th officer-involved incident in the Valley and the 67th statewide this year.
